Our History
Irish Murphy’s was originally known as the Camp Hotel and was built in 1861.
In 1995 Ralph Norton founded the Irish Murphy’s franchise bringing authentic Irish pub culture to Australia.
In 2003 the Camp Hotel underwent a major renovation and was reborn as Irish Murphy’s Ballarat (please note this franchise is not longer in existence).
Under the new name of Irish Murphy’s, standout publicans were Ian & Trish Larkin. They grew Irish Murphy’s to be
‘The Best Pub in Ballarat’.
Fast forward to September 2025, Donald & Michelle Mace along with their two sons, Will and Matt, took over the ownership of Irish Murphy’s. Under their new stewardship, Irish Murphy’s is growing from strength to strength. It is now known in Ballarat for the Best Guinness & Kilkenny in town, Best Irish menu and is the No.1 Venue for live bands on Friday & Saturday nights. Not to mention the largest gathering of traditional Irish musicians and singers on a Sunday afternoon for their Celtic Jam.
Finally, Irish Murphy’s is once again claiming her No.1 spot as having the “BEST CRAIC IN BALLARAT”.
